30.5.2022 Hats for Heroes update

Hi everyone, Knitfest would like to thank everyone who has been busy making beanies for HATS FOR HEROES (Aust). We’re doing well but haven’t reached our targets yet. Well actually, it’s an ongoing thing because we’ll always have disasters and we’ll always be looking after our first responders in any way we can. Here’s our donations pictured below. We have a long way to go to reach our target.
As you know, we’re knitting or crocheting beanies and scarves for the SES and Rural Fire Brigades as well as Disaster Relief Victims. We’ll be starting with our home grown crews from Maleny, then we hope to go further afield around S.E. Qld, then where needed in other states. We already have the Kawana crews on our list.
Scarves for SES and Fire Brigade must be black yarn and 1.5m long. Keep the pattern simple please.
SES – Need 15. Flouro or pumpkin orange or add a little black if you’d like to jazz it up with a small stripe or band.
Maleny Rural Fire Brigade – Need 35. Buttercup yellow or add some black. The fire brigade need 100% wool as acrylic can melt in extreme heat.
Disaster Relief Victims will be an ongoing charity. Can be any colour yarns. Australia certainly has it’s share of floods and fires. We’re working towards sending 50 to both Lismore and Gympie this winter. They sure need it now that it’s getting cold.
We will be also be accepting donations of yarns in these colours. Beanies and Yarns can be left with the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre or contact us to deliver to our office. The Knitfest website has a couple of beanies in the pattern section under Get Involved if you need something to get you started.
If you would like to be one of our regular knitters, you can contact us to pick up donated yarn.
If any SES or Rural Fire Brigades want to register, please contact us at knitfest@hotmail.com with your branch numbers.
Check out our Hats for Heroes page for future updates, on this website.
