4.25 or 4.5 crochet hook for 8 ply wool (larger for larger ply wool and smaller for smaller ply wool)

Step one: Start with a magic ring.

Step two: Chain (ch) 2, 15 treble (tr) into ring, slip stitch (sl st) into top of first tr.

Step three: ch 2, 1 tr into same stitch, 4 double treble (dtr) into next stitch, 2 tr into next stitch, 1 half treble (htr) into each of next four stitches.

Step four (point at base of heart): 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr into next stitch.

Step 5 (going up the other side): 1 htr into each of next four stitches, 2 tr into next stitch, 4 dtr into next stitch, 1 tr into next stitch, ch 2, sl st into same stitch.
