Knitfest has an exciting WorkshopProgram for you this year. There are lots of different fibre arts to choose from.

To book a workshop, please fill in the form at the bottom of the page and press submit. Then pay for your workshop either via Paypal or Direct Debit on our ‘Store’ page, to complete the booking. Please note, your workshop is not confirmed until it has been paid for.

Note: All workshops are subject to cancellation if numbers for that workshop are not reached.

Create your own macrame pot hanger with 5mm cotton rope, using various macrame techniques. No experience needed.

Micromacrame Bracelets or Necklace – Carmen Taylor

Learn different techniques to make various micromacrame bracelets or necklace with gemstone, with 1mm thread & beads. These techniques are also the basis to make your own fabulous micromacrame and gemstone jewellery. No experience needed.

Shadow or Illusion Knitting – Eva-Marie Steinkamp

Shadow or Illusion Knitting is always worked in stripes with two contrasting colours but it’s knitted in such a way that it has a hidden image. When you look straight onto the knitted piece you see only two-colour stripes, but when viewed from an angle, the “hidden” image appears.
Material List: please bring basic knitting yarn in 2 contrasting colours in 8ply (no boucle or uneven) and 4 or 5mm knitting needles

Horizontal Cable – Eva-Marie Steinkamp

It’s easy to find instructions for vertical knitted cables but what about cables that go horizontal across your knitted fabric? If you ever wandered whether it’s possible to knit horizontal cables and would like to learn this easy technic, come and join me in this fun workshop. You only need basic knitting skills: cast on, knit and purl, cast off.
Please bring some 8ply wool, knitting needle and a cable needle or second knitting needle. Some wool provided.

Sushi Beads in Wool – Gail Grunske

In this fun class you will learn to make wet felted sushi beads by laying pure merino wool in different colours and in different layers, then turn the wool to solid felt. Entirely your choice of colours. These Sushi beads can be used in lots of different projects, jewellery, decorate a hat or jacket, home decor, etc let your imagination run wild. No experience necessary. All materials supplied.

Create a Felted Wool Glasses Case – Gail Grunske    SOLD OUT

In this fun class you will learn how to make a seamless glasses pouch made from pure merino wool. What colours, how you embellish and decorate your very own arty glasses case will be born from your imagination. You’ll learn to lay wool over a resist, and turn the wool into solid felt. The wool will become sturdy under your hands. The pouch can be used for lots of things, jewellery, treasures etc. No experience necessary.

Children’s Arts & Crafts
In the Pom Pom Palace, ideas sprout and blossom into something. There’s lots of crafty fun to be had and at the end of it all we take away something amazing, made with our own two hands! Come sit and make Pom Poms, French Spool Knitting, Macrame and other yarny crafts with Crafty Jane.

Indigo & Shibori Cushions – Jenai Hooke

In this workshop you will dye a natural cotton cushion cover to adorn your home. Patterned with the stitched Shibori technique of Mokume, creating a beautiful wood grain design revealed after dyeing in a natural indigo vat. Indigo is the world’s oldest blue dye and it magically comes from the pigment of a green leaf.

Eco-Printed Scarf – Jenai Hooke  SOLD OUT!!

The technique of Eco dyeing is the careful laying out of various leaves and flowers on fabric before rolling tightly and bundling with string. The bundle is then cooked imparting colour and leaf/flower detail, leaving a beautiful print on the silk and imparting a delicious aroma of eucalyptus and citrus.

Recycled Basket Weaving – Jivan Leela

For this two hour workshop, participants will delight using, fallen tree fibres, string, old jeans, t-shirts, plastic vegetable bags and potato bags, to create baskets of colour, vibrancy and functionality.  Participants are welcome to bring old favourite pieces of fabric, string, cording…or even old jeans they can cut up, all materials required, other than favourite bits you may like to bring, are provided.

Needle felted Dogs using Armatures – Steve Lyons

Learn how to quickly make an armature for a dog and build the body of your favourite breed. This fun workshop will surprise you how easy it is to create animals and other creatures starting with a wire armature. In two hours we’ll have a laugh while we create your best friend. Your dog may morph into a pony or unicorn. Who knows? Suitable for beginners as well as experienced felters. In two hours you will confidently finish a small dog.
